Disney Cruise Lines Audition

From the Disney Careers Web Site:

Some roles receive single on-board cabins. Please bring a non-returnable photo and resume. All auditions begin at the times listed; please arrive early to sign in.

DANCERS: Should be strong in Musical Theatre Jazz. Some roles require tap, and vocal ability. Additionally, seeking Male dancers with muscular, athletic build. Please wear appropriate dance attire & shoes, and be warmed up and ready to begin at the listed time. A dance combination will be taught."

If Memory serves me well, this audition was held at Ripley Grier Studios at 520 8th Avenue (between 36th and 37th Streets). This audition wasn't as packed as the Rockette audition, but the staff had to split the dancers in half due to numbers. Bring headshot and resume, as usual.

The combination was a musical-theater combination to be performed in flat jazz shoes. Everyone was wearing a motley array of clothing. I felt like this was a much more casual audition than the Rockette audition.

The musical theatre combination requires, above all, performance and musicality. The music is very Frank Sinatra-esque. There are a few turns and kicks, but mostly footwork and arms. You will be arranged in a group of 5 to perform for the casting director.

It is VERY important to stay in your space. They don't just place dancers in positions so that everyone gets seen. They place them there so they can see who knows how to dance with a group.

Oh yeah... don't screw up! ;o)

When the audition was over, the casting director informed us that their decisions were not only based on dancing ability but also on who would fit into costumes. They were doing a lot of type casting. The director said that they were even looking at eye color!

Just goes to show that you never know what you're going to find at a dance audition!

It may be a good idea to examine the different shows that are performed on Disney Cruise Lines. You can see them at: http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/en_US/onboard/entertainment/landing?name=LiveShowsLandingPage
